VITUS OFFICE STAIRCASE
Wood and metal teamed up for the fabrication of the Vitus staircase, designed by Graham Baba Architects.
The staircase, crafted from hot-rolled blackened steel, features six flights with four intermediate steps between each landing. The treads and landings began as 11-gauge hot-rolled sheets, which were break-formed into shape. MDF templates were then used to secure the treads to the stringers. Each stringer was carefully fabricated, transported to the site, and hoisted into place by CHG Fabricators.
The guardrail consists of a 1/2” x 2” cold-rolled square bar for the cap, complemented by 3/8” round hot-rolled steel vertical pickets. For the handrail, a 1 1/2” round DOM seamless tubing was mitered at the corners. The guardrail was installed in sections, with the handrail fitting into place as the final touch.
As you turn the corner towards the main level landing, the staircase transitions into oak with integrated bench seating, providing the perfect spot to look up at the intricate staircase and architectural lighting fixtures.
